May 4th, 2013. Undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr takes on Robert Guerrero as he defends his WBC Welterweight Title for the 1st time in his 2nd reign. The vacant Ring Magazine Welterweight Title is also up for grabs. This is Mayweather’s 21st world title fight in the 18th year of his professional career.

Prefight records; Mayweather 43(26)-0, Guerrero 31(18)-1-1.

Entering the fight, Guerrero had suffered only one defeat back in December 2005 against Gamaliel Diaz; losing a very close SD. He avenged that loss in June 2006 via KO6. 6 years later, Diaz would become the WBC Super Featherweight Champion.

Floyd Mayweather Jr was world champion in 5 weight classes going into the fight; Super Featherweight, Lightweight, Light Welterweight, Welterweight & Light Middleweight. On the other hand, Guerrero was a two weight world champion, at Featherweight and Super Featherweight.

The Ghost has wins over Enrique Sanchez, Juan Polo-Perez, Gamaliel Diaz, Malcolm Klassen, Michael Katsidis, Eric Aiken, Andre Berto, Joel Casamayor & Orlando Salido going into the fight. While the veteran Mayweather had triumphed over a long list of top oppositions such as Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Arturo Gatti, Jesús Chávez, Carlos Hernandez, Shane Mosley, DeMarcus Corley, Genaro Hernandez, Angel Manfredy,Victor Ortiz, Gregorio Vargas, Carlos Gerena, Emanuel Augustus, Sharmba Mitchell, Carlos Baldomir, Diego Corrales, Miguel Cotto & Jose Luis Castillo (2x).

*Although he arguably earned a gift against Jose Luis Castillo in their 1st meeting.

Both fighters are competitive in the first half, with both fighters arguably winning 3 rounds apiece. However, Mayweather won the second half decisively after having adjusted to Guerrero’s style; consistently picking him apart with his piston-like right hand counters while displaying a brilliant defense and incomparable ring generalship, to overwhelm his younger challenger.

The Ghost to his credit, pushed the fight to the best of his abilities and managed to push Mayweather to fight a faster pace. Time after time, Guerrero had success working the body and landing his left hands but none of it is enough to match up with the elite skills of the Money Man.

After 36 minutes of boxing, 36 year old Mayweather triumphs with scores of 117-111 on all 3 cards.

4 months after this win, Floyd scored a momentous victory over Canelo Alvarez in dominant fashion; giving the 23 year old Mexican star a boxing lesson for 12 rounds with in a dazzling display of ring craft & superb boxing skills.

Mayweather would go on to beat the likes of Andre Berto, Marcos Maidana (2x) & Manny Pacquiao (whom he consider to be his biggest victory) before retiring undefeated at 50(27)-0.

Hope you guys enjoy this highlight of one of Floyd Mayweather’s most dominant performance and remember to subscribe. Muchas gracias boxing heads!
