November 18th, 2017. Filipino sensation “Pretty Boy” Jerwin Ancajas makes the 3rd defense of his IBF World Super Flyweight Title against undefeated Jamie Conlan aka “The Mexican”. This is Conlan’s 1st opportunity at a world title.

Prefight records; Ancajas 27(18)-1, Conlan 19(11)-0.

Back in September 2016, Jerwin Ancajas won the IBF World Super Flyweight Crown via UD over McJoe Arroyo. He proceeded to make 2 successful defenses of the IBF title against Jose Alfredo Rodriguez and Teiru Kinoshita in February and November 2017 respectfully.

Jamie Conlan is set to be his 3rd title defense.

From the 1st frame onwards, Ancajas dominated Conlan in a one sided affair. Conlan was sent to the canvas 4 times in total. The 1st knockdown was a bizarre one, as it was a delayed reaction after he landed a flash right hand on Conlan who went down a few seconds after the shot connected.

In the 5th round, Ancajas was deducted a point for repeated low blows (not shown) and Conlan was given time to recover. At the end of the round, Conlan almost went down again from a right hand. While the shot sent him squatting down, but neither his knees nor gloves hit the canvas.

The end happened in the 6th frame after Ancajas sent the British challenger down again. This time, referee Gene Del Bianco stopped the fight without counting as he had seen enough.

Since this victory, Ancajas made 2 more successful defenses of his IBF title; an RTD10 over Israel Gonzalez in February 2018 (in his US debut) and a lopsided UD over fellow Filipino Jonas Sultan recently (May 2018).

Ancajas’ fight with Sultan marks the 1st time in 93 years that 2 Filipino fighters fought in a World Title Fight. The 1st Filipino vs Filipino World Title Fight goes way back to May 2nd, 1925; between the legendary Pancho Villa and Clever Sencio where Villa retained his World Flyweight Title via UD15.

* Pancho Villa (born Francisco Villaruel Guilledo) was also the 1st Filipino World Boxing Champion. Back in June 18th 1925, he knocks out the great Jimmy Wilde to win the World Flyweight Championship and became a national hero.

Don’t forget to subscribe, boxing heads! And muchas gracias!
