May 15th, 2010. For the 2nd defense of his WBA Light Welterweight Title, Amir “King” Khan takes on the “Magic Man” Paulie Malignaggi in his United States debut. Back in July 2009, Khan outpointed Andreas Kotelnik over 12 rounds to bag the WBA 140 pound strap.

Prefight records; Khan 22(16)-1, Malignaggi 27(5)-3.

Entering the bout, Khan had notable wins over Andriy Kotelnik, Gairy St Clair and Marco Antonio Barrera while Malignaggi had beaten commendable oppositions in Juan Diaz and Lovemore Ndou (2x).

From the opening bell, Khan thoroughly disenchanted the Magic Man with the use of a sharp jab and his renown hand speed en route to a dominant TKO11 victory.

Between rounds 10 and 11, the gutsy Malignaggi pleaded with referee Steve Smoger and the ringside physician to allow him to continue when Smoger wanted to stop the fight. He was given another round.

By the time of the stoppage, Khan was ahead 100-90 in all 3 cards.

“Just picture perfect by Amir Khan; picking apart the Magic Man who doesn’t seem to have a trick up his sleeves…”
– Bob Papa

On April 20th 2009, Khan will be facing the undefeated Triple Crown World Champion Terence Crawford.

It appears that Crawford is highly favored to win by stoppage, what do you think? Let me know in the comments.
