November 27th, 2010. Andre “S.O.G” Ward makes the 2nd defense of his WBA World Super Middleweight title against Sakio “The Scorpion” Bika. This fight took place during the Super Six World Boxing Classic tournament that began in October 2009 and ended in June 2011.

However, this fight is not part of the tournament. Ward was scheduled to take on Andre Dirrel but Dirrel had to pull out due to an injury, thus Ward was allowed to take on Bika (although not obligated to) with his WBA title on the line. This was a good fight although a foul filled one as rabbit punching, headbutts and occasional low blows were committed by both fighters.

Note that I did not highlight most of the fouls as there were no point deductions and it did not affect the judges’ scoring. To many observers, the fight was much closer than the judges’ scorecards suggest although Ward is the clear winner.

Bika with his no-rhythm style was able to trouble Ward in the early rounds and part of the middle rounds but Ward’s superior technical skills and ability to adapt to Bika’s style gets him the upper hand particularly in the late rounds. While The Scorpion was able to occasionally trouble S.O.G, but it was not sufficient to overcome Ward’s strong lead.

In 2009, Andre Ward dominated Mikkel Kessler en route to a stoppage, bagging the WBA strap and have had one successful title defense against Allan Green in 2010. Ward would continue to beat Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch in May and December of 2011, both via UD in dominant fashions.

Highlights of Andre Ward’s wins over;

Carl Froch –

Arthur Abraham –

Mikkel Kessler –

Ward is still undefeated today with a record of 30(15)-0, fighting in the Light Heavyweight division. Ward will clash with undefeated Russian star Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev on November 2016 in a highly anticipated matchup. Kovalev is also undefeated with a record of 30(26)-0-1. It is expected to be a great matchup and possibly one of the candidates for Fight of the Year 2016.
